Among various types of schizophrenia, Paranoid schizophrenia is the most common type, which occurs about 40.8%. This type of prognosis has a better response to treatment, and many patients are still in stable conditions. Patients with paranoid schizophrenia need long-term care and supervision from their significant others, especially family members. In this situation, the role and support of the family becomes important; one of the nonpharmacological management for paranoid schizophrenia involving the family is family psychoeducation. In this research, psychoeducation was corrected and enhanced by presenting self-efficacy as part of family psychoeducation.

Objective: Self-efficacy-based family psychoeducation aims to provide a better understanding of changes in a person’s behavior on long-term treatment of mental illness.

Methods: This study used quantitative and pre-experimental designs with one group pretest and posttest. This study was conducted in the working area of Jenangan Public Health Center. The research period started in October and continued until November 2023. The authors used a purposive sampling technique. Respondents in this study were family members of paranoid schizophrenia patients who were also their caregivers. This family psychoeducation used a guideline module to guide the therapist on how to perform self-efficacy-based family psychoeducation to respondents. The family caregiving skills for patients with paranoid schizophrenia were assessed using five family health tasks questionnaires and statistically tested with the Wilcoxon test. The total number of respondents in this study was 48 respondents.

Results: The results of the statistical analysis showed that the P value was 0.000. This indicated a statistically significant difference, meaning that overall, the Family Psychoeducation intervention based on Self-Efficacy had a positive impact on the family's ability to care for individuals with paranoid schizophrenia.

Conclusion: It can be concluded that self-efficacy-based psychoeducation influences caregiving skills for paranoid schizophrenia. This therapy is highly recommended for patients with mental health conditions. This therapy can be applied in hospital settings and in community family nursing. These findings highlight the importance of incorporating family psychoeducation as a part of the comprehensive treatment plan for patients with schizophrenia.
2025-06-14T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 IJNP (Indonesian Journal of Nursing Practices) https://journal.umy.ac.id/index.php/ijnp/article/view/22395 Palliative Care Needs in Stroke Patients According to Family Perspectives in Yogyakarta: A Phenomenological Study 2024-10-22T08:36:08+07:00 Raditya Bagus Septian radityabagusseptian@mail.ugm.ac.id Heny Suseani Pangastuti heny_pangastuti@mail.ugm.ac.id Wenny Artanty Nisman wenny.artanty@ugm.ac.id
Background: Stroke patients have complex problems that require palliative care to optimize the patient's quality of life. Excessive and undetectable anxiety in cancer patients will contribute to the worsening of cancer patients' conditions. Therefore, nurses play a crucial role in providing anxiety first aid for cancer patients.

Objective: The purpose of the study is to explore nurses’ experience in delivering anxiety first aid to patients with cancer.

Method: This study utilized a descriptive qualitative design and reported following COREQ. The study was conducted in a public hospital in Surakarta, Indonesia. It included sixteen oncology nurses selected using a purposive sampling technique. Five head nurses participated in the focus group discussion, while the other eleven primary nurses conducted in-depth interviews. The focus group discussion lasted approximately 90 minutes, while each nurse's in-depth interview lasted approximately 60 minutes. The data analysis used the Colaizzi method.

Results: The study indicated five themes, including 1) factors that cause anxiety, 2) psychosocial interventions for anxiety first aid, 3) peer support, 4) healthcare constraints, and 5) expectations for improving healthcare quality.

Conclusion: The study highlighted factors that cause anxiety, psychosocial interventions for anxiety, first aid, peer support, treatment constraints, and expectations for improvement of health care services. To improve healthcare services for patients with cancer, it is important to establish a digital-based mental health support system, such as a friendly digital platform that serves as an instrument for healthcare providers to conduct timely and precise screenings and manage anxiety, thereby alleviating the burden of nurses' already considerable workloads.
2025-06-14T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 IJNP (Indonesian Journal of Nursing Practices) https://journal.umy.ac.id/index.php/ijnp/article/view/23695 Medical Play on Children's Anxiety and Pain during Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation 2024-10-04T11:11:52+07:00 Sri Rosma Kencana srirosmastp@gmail.com Dessie Wanda dessie@ui.ac.id Ayu Widya Lestari dessie@ui.ac.id
Background: Insertion of peripheral intravenous cannulation during hospitalization can cause anxiety and pain in preschool children. Anxiety in children due to the installation of peripheral intravenous cannulation can result in fear, discomfort, and non-cooperation, which can have a bad impact on the child's psychological and physiological condition. Unresolved pain can result in traumatic experiences for children. One distraction technique that can be applied to overcome anxiety and pain is medical play.

Objective: The research aimed to analyze the effect of medical play on anxiety and pain in preschool-aged children when undergoing peripheral intravenous cannulation.

Methods: This research used a quasi-experimental pre and post-test with a control group design involving 31 control group respondents and 31 intervention respondents. Older people who live alone and are separated from their children, grandkids, and close caretakers are more likely to experience loneliness for a number of reasons. Programs that increase awareness of mental health difficulties, especially for older people, are vital because this danger exists in developing countries like Indonesia as well. Prior to the application of mental health nursing interventions, research on loneliness in older people is required.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate loneliness among older people and create program ideas for increasing mental health awareness that Indonesia can use.

Method: This study employed a descriptive-analytic approach, and the UCLA version 3 loneliness evaluation was used to gauge the loneliness of 257 senior respondents in Yogyakarta and Palembang. Older adults who met the following requirements were eligible to participate in this study: they had to be over 60, cooperative, willing to participate as research subjects, and not feel threatened by the gravity of answering the questionnaire. Elderly persons with disabilities, older adults with disorders, and older adults who encounter complaints during the research procedure that make it impossible for them to continue as respondents are the inclusion criteria in this study.

Result: Most respondents had low levels of loneliness (30.7%), fairly high levels (30%), moderate levels (21.8%), and high levels (17.5%). One alternative initiative for raising mental health awareness and helping lonely older adults is CERAHBY.

Conclusion: Based on the study's findings, the researcher suggests CERAHBY as an older mental health awareness program package that might be implemented in Indonesia.
2025-08-21T00:00:00+07:00 Copyright (c) 2025 IJNP (Indonesian Journal of Nursing Practices) https://journal.umy.ac.id/index.php/ijnp/article/view/23978 Sexual Needs Among Cancer Patients: A Systematic Literature Review 2024-12-20T12:43:56+07:00 Riven Karundeng rivenkarundeng@ui.ac.id Yati Afiyanti yatikris@ui.ac.id Agung Waluyo agungwss@ui.ac.id
Background: Both cancer and its treatments have profound effects on sexuality. Sex, sexuality, and intimacy hold equal importance for cancer patients as they do for individuals without cancer. Discussions surrounding sexuality are often not viewed as urgent or essential and may even be considered taboo in certain cultural contexts. The quality-of-life issues have become secondary to the primary goal of curing cancer, with little emphasis on addressing intimacy-related problems.
