Uji Kadar Hambatan Minimal Ekstrak Batang Siwak (Salvadora persica) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus secara In Vitro

Abstract


Siwak or miswak is a part of Salvadora persica plant. Siwak is a special plant. Siwak was appreciated by our prophet Muhammad SAW Siwak have many name. in Arab is weel famaous as Arak or Ayurak Siwak contained trimetilamin (TMA), which was a hidrofil substrat and its has function as floatation agent, prevent deposit ofparticle and debris in oral cavity, especially in between thr teeth. Besides, it has also antibacterial activity. This research is an experimental laboratory examination carried out to know the antimicroorganism activity of extract siwak against Staphylococcus aureus. The antimicroorganism activity of siwak has been tested by the determination of the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) using the tube dilution method. The result of this study shows that the MIC and the MBC of siwak against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and wild strain each is about 6,25gr% and 12,5 gr%. It is concluced that siwak has indeed an antimicroorganism (bactericide) activity against Staphylococcus aureus.

Siwak atau miswak merupakan bagian dari batang tumbuhan Salvadora persica. Siwak termasuk tanaman istimewa. Ia dihargai tinggi oleh Nabi Muhammad Saw. Ujudnya seperti semak belukar namun kaya dengan sebutan. Di Arab dikenal dengan nama Arak atau Ayurak. Siwak mengandung trimetilamin (TMA). Zat ini mudah larut dalam air dan berfungsi sebagai zat apung (floatation agent) sehingga mampu mencegah endapan (deposit) partikel dan sisa makanan di rongga mulut khususnya ruang antara gigi. Selain itu, juga potensial sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental laboratorik yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak batang siwak (Salvadorapersica) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus. Aktivitas antimikroba ditunjukkan dengan melihat kadar hambatan minimal (KHM) dan kadar bakterisidal minimal (KBM) ekstrak batang siwak (Salvadora persica) terhadap mikroba tersebut dengan metode pengenceran tabung (tube dilution methode). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa KHM terhadap Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 dan wild strain 6,25 gr%, KBM sebesar 12,5 gr%. Disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak batang siwak (Salvadora persica) memiliki aktivitas antimikroba terhadap Staphylococcus aurius yang bersifat bakterisidal.
