Perawatan saluran akar adalah perawatan yang dilakukan dengan mengangkat jaringan pulpa yang telahterinfeksi dari kamar pulpa dan saluran akar. Salah satu tahap yang penting yaitu sterilisasi dimana dibutuhkan
bahan medikamen yang paling efektif dan biokompatibel. Daun sirih merah (Pipper crocatum) diyakini
mempunyai banyak kandungan antibakteri seperti alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin dan tannin. Enterococcus faecalis
adalah salah satu bakteri yang memiliki resistensi serta paling sering ditemukan pada infeksi saluran akar.
Kemampuan dari bakteri ini dapat mengadakan kolonisasi yang baik dan dapat bertahan dalam saluran akar.
Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui daya antibakteri ekstrak daun sirih merah (Pipper crocatum) terhadap
bakteri Enterococcus faecalis. Desain penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimental laboratorium in vitro.
Metode yang digunakan yaitu dilusi tabung untuk menentukan Kadar Hambat Minimum (KHM) dan Kadar
Bunuh Minimum (KBM). Konsentrasi ekstrak yang digunakan yaitu 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% dan 30%. Hasil
penelitian diperoleh KHM sebesar 20% dan KBM 25%. Kesimpulan penelitian ini ekstrak daun sirih merah
mempunyai daya antibakteri dengan nilai KHM 20% dan KBM 25%. Ekstrak etanol daun sirih merah (Pipper
crocatum) mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Enterococcus faecalis pada konsentrasi 20% dan dapat
membunuh bakteri Enterococcus faecalis pada konsentrasi 25%.
